RCP seeks continuation of fish sales until new market ready

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Kadapa – Adhra Pradesh: Rayalaseema Communist Party (RCP) State Secretary Ravi Shankar Reddy on Thursday urged the municipal authorities to allow fish vendors to continue their business at the existing location until the proposed fish market is completed, citing livelihood concerns of hundreds of families.

Livelihood concerns of vendors

Meeting the Municipal Commissioner at his office, Ravi Shankar Reddy said nearly 300 families in the city depend solely on fish sales for survival and that the vendors were not causing inconvenience to the public. He assured that the vendors are ready to relocate once the new fish market becomes operational.

Irregular use of government premises

He also alleged misuse of government infrastructure, stating that ten rooms built for vegetable vendors in a government complex were illegally sub-leased and converted into a medical shop. He further pointed out that private toilets were constructed on government land without permission and demanded their immediate removal.

Commissioner’s response

Responding positively, the Commissioner said fish sales could continue at the present location if there were no public objections, and asked vendors to submit signatures from local residents to that effect.

The meeting was attended by Fishermen’s Association District Secretary Chapala Subbarayudu, RCP leaders Madagalam Prasad, Lakshmidevi, Vijay, Pratap Reddy, Subbaiah, Seenu, Sivakrishna, Sunitha Lakshmi, Gurramma, Venkatadri, Nagasubbamma, Siva, and others.
