New Delhi: Emphasising the urgent need for collective and sustained action to protect youth from substance abuse, Vice President of India CP Radhakrishnan on Tuesday inaugurated the Drug-Free Campus Campaign at the University of Delhi, calling it a crucial step towards achieving the vision of a Viksit and Aatma-nirbhar Bharat.
Call for collective responsibility
Addressing students, faculty, and officials, the Vice President stressed that safeguarding young people from drugs requires the combined efforts of educational institutions, policymakers, and society. He underlined that a drug-free youth population is central to nation-building and long-term development.
Launch of e-pledge platform and mobile app
As part of the Nasha Mukt Parisar Abhiyaan, the Vice President launched a dedicated e-pledge platform and mobile application, urging students from universities across the country to actively participate and commit themselves to maintaining drug-free campuses.
Integration across central universities
The Vice President called upon Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan to ensure that the Drug-Free Campus Campaign becomes an integral part of all Central Higher Educational Institutions, strengthening the nationwide fight against substance abuse.
Dharmendra Pradhan: Campaign Is a national resolve
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described the initiative as more than a campaign, calling it a firm collective resolve towards the youth, society, and the nation. He said the University of Delhi, as a hub of ideas and values, has taken a meaningful step in addressing a serious youth-centric challenge.
Drug abuse threatens youth potential
The Minister warned that drug abuse poses a grave threat not only to individual health but also to the nation’s capacity to nurture productive and responsible citizens. He expressed confidence that the University of Delhi’s initiative would become a key pillar of the nationwide anti-drug movement.
Link to Viksit Bharat 2047 vision
Pradhan noted that the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 can be realised only when the youth are healthy, aware, self-reliant, and purpose-driven. He urged students to transform the campaign into a people’s movement.
Aim of the campaign
The Drug-Free Campus Campaign seeks to promote awareness, encourage healthy lifestyles, and mobilise students to create a safe, substance-free academic environment.
Dignitaries present
The event was attended by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, University of Delhi Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, senior officials, faculty members, and a large number of students.
