Chennai (Net Report): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has raised concerns over the potential loss of eight parliamentary seats in the state if constituency re-division is carried out based on population control policies. He announced that an all-party meeting would be convened on March 5 to discuss the issue, with 40 political parties registered with the Election Commission invited to participate.
Delimitation a ‘Threat to Southern States’
Speaking to the media after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Stalin described the proposed re-division of Lok Sabha constituencies as a ‘sword hanging over the southern states’. He pointed out that Tamil Nadu’s success in population control could lead to a reduction in parliamentary representation. “India’s biggest goal is to control population, and Tamil Nadu has achieved this. However, due to lower population growth, the number of seats could drop from 39 to 31,” he said.

Language and education isues to be discussed
Apart from the delimitation issue, Stalin said the three-language policy and the NEET examination would also be on the agenda for the all-party meeting. He warned that the Centre’s stance on language policies could ignite another language conflict, and the DMK is prepared to resist such moves. “We are ready to launch another language movement if necessary,” he asserted.
The meeting on March 5 is expected to bring together political leaders to formulate a unified stance on these pressing issues.
