Sanitation workers demand better working conditions, regularization

Yemmiganur – Andhra Pradesh: Sanitation workers of Yemmiganur Municipality, whose lives have remained unchanged despite shifting governments, submitted a memorandum to Municipality Commissioner Gangi Reddy on October 14. The workers, led by the Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) and AIKMS leaders, demanded better provisions and regularization of contract workers.

Demands for basic amenities ahead of festival

IFTU District leader S Balaraju and AIKMS District Secretary M Sattanna, called on the municipality to provide sanitation workers with two pairs of clothes, soap, oil, gloves, and footwear before the Dasara festival each year. They stressed that these basic amenities are essential for workers’ welfare and should be prioritized by the ruling coalition government.

Regularization of contract workers

In addition to the demand for essential supplies, the leaders also urged the government to regularize contract sanitation workers. They highlighted that contract workers deserve the same protections and benefits as regular employees, given their critical role in maintaining public health.

Participants in the petition drive

Several IFTU leaders, including S Babu, Dinakar Nagesh, Ashok, Raju, Narasimhulu, Bhaskar, Chanti, Bhimanna, and Martin, were present during the petition submission. They reiterated their commitment to fighting for the rights and welfare of sanitation workers in the municipality.
