Andhra Pradesh: Marking the 40th death anniversary of Comrade Puchalapalli Sundarayya, leaders and activists paid tribute to his legacy of selfless service and dedication to the underprivileged. A fruit distribution drive was organized at Amalapuram Area Hospital by the CPM’s Konaseema District Committee.
A life dedicated to the poor
Speaking at the event, Godavari District Graduate MLC Illa Venkateswara Rao hailed Sundarayya as a humble warrior for social justice. Born into a landlord family, he chose to redistribute his land to the poor and fight for equality.
“He was a humanitarian who spent two decades raising people’s issues in Parliament and Assemblies,” Rao said, noting that even leaders like Nehru praised him.
Call to uphold his ideals
Rao urged everyone to continue Sundarayya’s values of selflessness and commitment to justice, emphasizing the need for today’s youth to draw inspiration from his life and work.
Criticism of current policies
CPM District Convener Kaarem Venkateswara Rao criticized the Union government, alleging that it is pushing anti-people policies and eroding constitutional rights. He condemned the repeal of long-fought labour laws, replaced by four labour codes, and called for people’s movements under the red flag to resist such changes.
Fruit distribution marks the occasion
In memory of Sundarayya, the CPM Konaseema District Committee organized the distribution of fruits to patients at Dr. B R Ambedkar Konaseema District Area Hospital, Amalapuram.
IVR expressed special thanks to Kambham Suryanarayana (Retired UTF Teacher) and the UTF Amalapuram Town Committee for their support.
The event was attended by CPM leaders including T Naga Varalakshmi, K Shankar, G Divine Grace, and P Amulya, along with Praja Sangha leaders Shiva, Chandrakala, Amida, N Vidisha, and M Srilakshmi, who collectively honoured Sundarayya’s enduring legacy.
