President urges IIT Dhanbad graduates to innovate with compassion, purpose

Jharkhand: President Droupadi Murmu addressed the 45th convocation of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad today, emphasizing the need for innovation aligned with public welfare and environmental harmony, and urging students to combine intelligence with empathy, excellence, and ethics.

Celebrating a century of academic legacy

Speaking at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, President Murmu lauded the institution’s near-century-long legacy. Founded to train experts in mining and geology, IIT-ISM has evolved into a premier institution offering diverse research and academic programs that cater to contemporary societal needs.

A call for purpose-driven professionals

While applauding the institute’s role in producing top engineers and researchers, the President emphasized the importance of nurturing compassionate and responsible professionals. She noted that IIT-ISM’s contributions go beyond academics, helping shape a progressive and inclusive India.

Addressing global crises such as climate change, resource scarcity, and digital disruptions, Murmu stressed the importance of sustainable solutions. She called on IIT-ISM to lead the way in developing forward-thinking technologies that balance development with environmental sustainability.
