No burial ground yet in Emmiganur, Mala Mahanadu warns of agitation

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Andhra Pradesh: Leaders of Mala Mahanadu have strongly demanded a long-pending burial ground for the Mala community in Emmiganur, warning of organized protests if their demands are not met. They submitted a formal petition to the local Tahsildar, pressing for swift action.

Petition submitted to Emmiganur Tahsildar

M Narasappa, State General Secretary of Mala Mahanadu, and Keyam Usenappa, Taluka President, submitted a memorandum to the Emmiganur Tahsildar seeking immediate redressal of pressing issues affecting the Mala community in the town. The submission took place during a meeting attended by local community leaders.

Burial ground demand pending for two decades

The leaders alleged that for the past 20 years, repeated requests for allotting a burial ground for the Mala community have gone unheard. “Despite our persistent efforts and appeals, there has been no action from the authorities. Our community continues to suffer due to lack of basic dignity in death,” they said.

Demand for official naming of colony

Another key demand raised was the official recognition of the Mala community’s residential area as Damodar Sanjeevaiah Colony. “It is a matter of identity and honour,” the leaders emphasized. The name pays tribute to Damodar Sanjeevaiah, the first Dalit Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Warning of protests if demands ignored

Mala Mahanadu leaders warned that if the demands are not addressed immediately, they will organize the Mala community into initiating large-scale protests across the constituency. “We are not asking for privilege—just basic rights. If we continue to be ignored, we will take to the streets,” they cautioned.

Community members join representation

Bannur Govindu and other local Mala Mahanadu activists also took part in the representation. They expressed solidarity and committed to intensifying their campaign for community rights if the government fails to act.
