By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Wokha – Nagaland: The first Adolescent Girls’ Club under Mission Shakti was launched at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha on Monday, with 50 adolescent girls as its founding members. This initiative aims to empower young girls aged 10-19 through education, health awareness, and leadership training, ensuring they grow into confident and informed individuals.
A vision for empowerment
Operating under the motto “Live the Promise,” the club seeks to equip girls with skills and knowledge to make informed decisions. Similar clubs are being set up in both government and private schools across Nagaland to support adolescent development.

Key objectives of the club
The initiative is structured around five core areas:
Empowerment: Providing life skills and confidence-building exercises.
Education: Enhancing academic performance and career preparedness.
Health awareness: Addressing topics such as nutrition, reproductive health, substance abuse, and mental well-being.
Leadership development: Fostering leadership skills through mentorship programs and workshops.
Social well-being: Encouraging participation in community service to build social responsibility.
Workshops, training, and support tools
The club will conduct various activities, including training sessions, mentorship programs, and community engagement projects. A special adolescent toolkit is being developed, containing information on menstrual health, mental well-being, teenage pregnancy, and child abuse prevention. Teachers and counselors are also working on educational materials and helpline information for distribution among students.
To keep the club dynamic and interactive, monthly activities will be conducted, providing a platform for members to discuss their concerns and develop solutions collaboratively.
The launch of the Adolescent Girls’ Club marks a significant step toward supporting young girls in their transition from adolescence to adulthood, equipping them with the necessary tools to navigate challenges and seize opportunities.
