Kadapa Police Arrest Mother–Daughter Duo in Serial House Thefts; Gold Worth ₹7.5 Lakh Recovered

Andhra Pradesh: In a significant breakthrough, the Andhra Pradesh Police arrested a mother and daughter in connection with a series of house thefts in Kadapa city. Acting on intelligence and surveillance, the Chinna Chowk Police Station team apprehended the two accused on March 14 and recovered 50 grams of gold jewellery worth about ₹7.5 lakh. Police said the duo allegedly supported and assisted their son and his associates in committing multiple thefts across the city.
Mother and daughter identified as key accused Kadapa
The arrested accused were identified as:
Udayagiri Ammajan, wife of Udayagiri Rafi, resident of MJ Kunta, Kadapa.
Chirichapala Kulayamma @ Udayagiri Kulayamma, daughter of Udayagiri Rafi, also from MJ Kunta.
According to police, both women played an active role in supporting theft operations carried out by Ammajan’s son and Kulayamma’s brother.
Gold jewellery worth ₹7.5 lakh recovered
Police recovered about 50 grams of gold ornaments valued at nearly ₹7,50,000 from the possession of the accused. The jewellery is believed to have been stolen from houses targeted in different parts of Kadapa city.
Involvement in multiple theft cases
Investigations revealed that the accused were involved in five theft cases registered in several localities including Shankarapuram, Chinna Chowk, Erramukkapalli and APHB Colony.
Police said the thefts were carried out by Pedda Kullayappa @ Laddu, the son of Ammajan, along with his associates. After the thefts, the stolen property was allegedly handed over to the two women, who either pawned or sold the items.
Son a habitual offender
Police officials stated that Pedda Kullayappa @ Laddu has been involved in several theft cases across different police stations in the Kadapa district. The arrested women were reportedly assisting him in planning and executing the crimes.
Accused previously obstructed police duties
Police said Ammajan had earlier attempted to obstruct law enforcement while officers tried to arrest her son. On one occasion, she reportedly stood outside the police station threatening to commit suicide by consuming a chemical substance if her son was not released.
She later consumed the substance, following which a separate case was registered against her.
Special operation led to arrest
The arrests were made following directives from the District SP Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath. The operation was carried out under the supervision of A Venkateswarlu, Sub-Divisional Police Officer.
The special team included Inspector G Obulesu, Sub-Inspectors N Rajarajeshwara Reddy and U. Pratap Reddy. They conducted surveillance on the suspects and successfully arrested the accused on the afternoon of March 14.
Police team commended
Following the successful operation and recovery of stolen property, Kadapa SP, DSP and police officials commended the team involved in cracking the cases. The officers and staff of the Chinna Chowk police station have been recommended for rewards for their effective investigation and swift action.
