Andhra Pradesh: Leaders of the Rayalaseema Mahila Sangam on Saturday emphasised the growing role of women in all sectors of society while marking International Women’s Day with celebrations and discussions at the organisation’s office in Kadapa.
District presidents Lakshmi Devi and Anita said women today are actively contributing in every field and have become a driving force in social, economic, and professional spheres. The event included a cake-cutting ceremony and messages of encouragement for women’s empowerment.
Celebrating International women’s contributions
Addressing the gathering, the leaders noted that women constitute nearly half of society and are playing key roles in various sectors ranging from education and employment to public service and community development.
They said the increasing participation of women in different fields reflects the progress of society and the determination of women to achieve equal opportunities.
Concerns over rising fuel and essential commodity prices
During the event, the speakers also expressed concern over the recent increase in the price of cooking gas cylinders, stating that such hikes place an additional financial burden on households.
They said rising fuel prices often lead to increased transportation costs and higher prices for essential commodities, which can particularly affect families from economically weaker sections.
Call for greater support for women
The speakers urged authorities to adopt policies that support women’s welfare, economic independence, and social security. They said empowering women through better opportunities and financial stability would strengthen families and society as a whole.
The programme was attended by Aap Ki Avaaz State Secretary Maqbul Bhasha and leaders including Madagalam Prasad, Pavani, and Neelamma, among others.
Participants extended greetings to women on the occasion and reiterated the need for continued efforts toward gender equality and empowerment.
Leaders of Rayalaseema Mahila Sangam marked International Women’s Day with a community-focused programme in Kadapa, highlighting the expanding role of women across social, economic, and professional spheres. The event, held at the organisation’s office, brought together local women leaders, activists, and community members for discussions centered on empowerment, equality, and current challenges affecting households.
District presidents Lakshmi Devi and Anita addressed attendees, emphasizing that women are no longer confined to traditional roles and are actively shaping progress in education, employment, governance, and grassroots development. They noted that women now contribute significantly to decision-making spaces, small businesses, public service, and social initiatives, reflecting a broader shift toward gender inclusion across Andhra Pradesh.
Speakers underlined that women constitute nearly half of society, making their participation essential for balanced growth. They stressed that empowering women is not limited to symbolic celebrations but requires sustained access to education, financial independence, skill development, and leadership opportunities. According to the organisers, true empowerment happens when women gain both economic stability and social respect.
The programme included a cake-cutting ceremony and interactive sessions where participants shared personal experiences about overcoming barriers in workplaces and communities. Messages of encouragement focused on self-reliance, collective support networks, and mentoring younger women to pursue careers and public roles with confidence.
However, the discussions also moved beyond celebration. Leaders voiced concern over the recent rise in cooking gas cylinder prices and increasing costs of essential commodities. They pointed out that inflation disproportionately affects household budgets, particularly in lower- and middle-income families where women often manage daily expenses. Rising fuel prices, they said, trigger higher transportation costs, which eventually raise the prices of food and basic goods.
Calling for policy-level interventions, the speakers urged authorities to implement measures that safeguard women’s welfare, ensure affordable essentials, and expand economic opportunities. They argued that strengthening women financially leads to stronger families and more resilient communities.
The event was attended by Aap Ki Avaaz State Secretary Maqbul Bhasha, along with community leaders Madagalam Prasad, Pavani, and Neelamma. Participants extended greetings on the occasion and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing gender equality through sustained grassroots efforts rather than one-day observances.International
