Andhra Pradesh: Farmers’ unions, agricultural labour groups, public organisations, and left parties staged a protest at the District Collector’s office in Amalapuram on Wednesday, demanding the immediate cancellation of trade agreements signed between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump, alleging they harm India’s agriculture sector.
Agreements burned in symbolic protest
Protesters, under the banner of the All India Farmers’ Union and Kishan Morcha, Dr. B R Ambedkar Konaseema district, publicly burned copies of the Modi-Trump trade agreements outside the Collector’s office as a symbolic act of dissent.
‘Agreements hurting farmers’ interests’
District Convener K Satthibabu and Co-convener Kaarem Venkateswara Rao said the pacts were drafted to benefit corporates at the expense of farmers, agricultural workers, and common people. “Agriculture is suffering serious losses because of these policies,” they said, demanding that Parliament enact laws such as a ‘Minimum Support Price Act’ to safeguard farmers’ livelihoods.
Call for people’s participation
The leaders likened the struggle to the Quit India Movement, calling for a united fight against corporate dominance allegedly promoted by the BJP government. They urged all sections of society to join the agitation.
