Dalit, tribal groups demand Amit Shah’s apology and resignation

Vijayawada – Andhra Pradesh: A protest led by Dalit, tribal, and public organizations erupted in Vijayawada on Sunday, condemning Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. B R Ambedkar as an insult to the Indian Constitution. The demonstrators demanded his immediate apology and resignation.

Protest highlights

The protest, organized under the auspices of Dalit, tribal, and public organizations, began at the Ambedkar statue at Tummalapalle Kalakshetram and concluded at the 125-foot Ambedkar statue at the PWD ground. Andra Malyadri, State General Secretary of the Anti-Caste Discrimination Struggle Association (KVPS), presided over the event, which saw participation from labour, women’s, and intellectual groups.

Condemnation of Shah’s remarks

Speakers from various groups strongly criticized Amit Shah’s comments in the Rajya Sabha, labeling them as a blatant insult to Dr. Ambedkar, the framer of the Constitution. They argued that the remarks dishonoured the principles of democracy and secularism and demanded Shah’s unconditional apology.

Call for unity against communalism

Protesters emphasized the urgent need to raise awareness against communal ideologies like Manuwad, which they described as a significant threat to India’s unity. They called for collective action to defend the spirit of the Constitution.

Criticism of BJP leadership

Speakers accused the BJP of authoritarian tendencies, citing Amit Shah’s remarks and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on atrocities against Dalits, tribal people, and women. They described the BJP’s approach as intolerant and oppressive, undermining democratic values.

An unconditional apology from Amit Shah for his remarks.

Shah’s immediate resignation from the post of Union Home Minister.

A united movement to safeguard constitutional values and democracy.
