Dalit rights groups seek Christian model as part of Kadapa beautification

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Kadapa – Andhra Pradesh: Dalit rights organisations on Monday demanded the installation of a Christian model at Mariapuram junction in Kadapa city, stating that inclusivity must be reflected in urban beautification initiatives.

Memorandum to Corporation Commissioner

District Honorary President of the Dalit Girijan Human Rights Struggle Association (DGHPS) Madagalam Prasad and Dalit Human Rights Struggle Committee (DHPS) District Secretary Kanagala Munnaiah met the Kadapa Municipal Corporation Commissioner and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

Demand for equal representation

The leaders pointed out that as part of the city beautification project, a model of Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple was erected at Masapeta junction and a Grand Dargah model at Almaspeta junction. They argued that, on similar lines, a Christian model should be installed at Mariapuram junction to ensure equal representation of all communities.

Delay and appeal

They stated that earlier administrations and officials had overlooked the construction of the Christian model, resulting in undue delay, and urged the authorities to address the issue promptly.

Commissioner’s assurance

Responding positively, the Commissioner assured them that the proposal would be placed for discussion in the forthcoming General Body meeting.

DHPS leaders Chandra, Gupta, and others were present during the submission of the memorandum.
