Dalit groups demand action against atrocities, slam govt’s inaction

Proddatur – Andhra Pradesh: A protest program was launched in Proddatur town on Wednesday evening with tributes to Dr. B R Ambedkar, as Dalit organizations raised serious concerns over rising crimes against women and the state government’s failure to ensure justice.
Homage to Ambedkar statue marks protest start
The protest began at the old bus stand in Proddatur, where members of the Mala Mahanadu paid floral tributes to Ambedkar’s statue. Leaders said the act was symbolic of their demand for equality and justice in society.
Call for action against TDP MLA
Addressing the gathering, Mala Mahanadu (Ramoji Group) National President Ramoji Emmanuel demanded immediate legal action against Telugu Desam Party MLA Kuna Ravikumar, who has been accused of mentally harassing Aamudalavalasa Soumya, leading to her suicide.
Justice sought for Sugali Preethi
Leaders also pressed for justice in the case of Sugali Preethi, demanding that those responsible for her murder be punished without delay. They said such incidents reflect the erosion of law and order in the state.
Failure of women’s safety after 79 years
Speakers at the protest criticized the coalition government for failing to protect Dalit and weaker-section women even after 79 years of independence. They alleged that crimes such as rape, murder, and harassment have been increasing under the current administration.
Warning ahead of elections
Dalit public organizations warned the coalition government that if such atrocities continue, they will face severe backlash from marginalized communities in the upcoming elections.
The protest witnessed the participation of State Honorary President Suddapalli Murali Prasad, State Coordinator Mekala Obulesu, Rayalaseema General Secretary Suddapalli Arun Kumar, District President Sangati Pullaiah, and Proddatur Town leaders Yesuratnam, Narayana, Sathri and Lakshmaiah.
