Anantapur – Andhra Pradesh: District Superintendent of Police P Jagadish led a public display of force against noise pollution, crushing 110 illegal bike silencers seized by city police and issuing stern warnings to violators.
Crushing the noise
In a bid to curb noise pollution and ensure public safety, the Anantapur police conducted a public demonstration near the local clock tower, crushing 110 illegally modified bike silencers under a road roller. The operation, led by District SP P Jagadish, aimed to deter motorists from using modified exhaust systems that produce excessive noise.
Zero tolerance for noise
SP Jagadish issued a strong warning to violators, emphasizing the severe consequences they face. These include jail terms of up to three months, fines up to Rs 10,000, and three-month license suspensions. Mechanics involved in modifying silencers will also face criminal charges.

Protecting public health and safety
The SP highlighted the detrimental effects of loud silencers. Excessive noise not only disrupts public peace and tranquility, particularly in residential areas, but also poses serious safety hazards. Loud noises can distract drivers, increasing the risk of accidents. Furthermore, prolonged exposure to such noise can negatively impact mental health and overall well-being.
A concerted effort
The Anantapur police have launched a special drive to identify and penalize motorists using modified silencers. SP Jagadish urged the public to comply with the Motor Vehicles Act and use only company-provided silencers. He also encouraged citizens to report violators to the police, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining a safe and noise-free environment. The operation involved the participation of Anantapur DSP V Srinivasa Rao, Circle Inspectors, and other police officers.
This operation underscores the Anantapur police’s commitment to maintaining a safe and peaceful environment for its citizens by combating the menace of noise pollution.
