AAP challenges BJP to fulfill free LPG cylinder promise before Holi

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Delhi: With just three days left for Holi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfill his election promise of providing free LPG cylinders on Holi and Diwali. Former Delhi Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi, joined by women from across the city, questioned the credibility of PM Modi’s guarantees, holding posters that read, “Rs 2500 Rupees Turned Out to Be a Jumla—Will We Get Free Cylinders?”

AAP accuses BJP of betraying Delhi’s women

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday at the AAP Headquarters, Atishi accused the BJP of deceiving Delhi’s women. She reminded voters that before the Delhi Assembly elections, PM Modi had promised Rs 2500 monthly financial assistance to women, but even the registration process for the scheme had not begun.

“March 8 has passed, and not a single woman has received Rs 2500. This promise has turned out to be a ‘jumla’ (empty rhetoric),” Atishi said. “Now, women are wondering if the free LPG cylinder promise will also prove to be a lie.”

Women demand answers on free LPG cylinder promise

Apart from the financial assistance, BJP leaders had also assured free LPG cylinders for women on Holi and Diwali. With Holi approaching on March 14, women across Delhi are waiting for their promised cylinders. Atishi said AAP MLAs have been inundated with queries from women asking when they would receive them.

“Will every woman in Delhi receive a free LPG cylinder on March 14, or was this just another election gimmick?” Atishi asked.

Public outrage over ‘Jumla’ promises

Women from various parts of Delhi gathered at AAP Headquarters, holding posters shaped like LPG cylinders that read, “Rs 2500 was a lie. Will we at least get the free cylinder?”

Atishi emphasized that this issue is no longer confined to Delhi but has gained national attention. “The entire country is watching to see whether Modi’s guarantees hold any truth. The first guarantee of Rs 2500 has already been exposed as a false promise. If the free cylinder is also denied, it will confirm that PM Modi’s election guarantees are nothing but deception,” she said.

BJP yet to respond amid rising pressure

With growing public scrutiny, the BJP has yet to respond to AAP’s allegations. As the Holi deadline nears, the pressure mounts on the ruling party to clarify whether it intends to fulfill its promise or risk further backlash from women voters. AAP has vowed to keep the issue alive until Delhi’s women receive what was assured to them.
