RPC Media Corporation Proposal: 5 Powerful Reforms Suggested by Meda Srinivas to Protect Journalists

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Rajahmundry: Rashtriya Praja Congress (RPC) Founder-President Meda Srinivas on Sunday urged the Central and State governments to establish a Media Corporation for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with a corpus fund of ₹1,000 crore to ensure security and institutional support for journalists.

Speaking at the party’s weekly meeting held at the RPC headquarters, he expressed concern over the growing pressures on journalists and the increasing influence of political, corporate, and commercial forces on the media sector.

Proposal for media corporation to support journalists RPC

Meda Srinivas proposed the creation of a Media Corporation Board for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to safeguard journalists and strengthen independent journalism.

He suggested that the corporation should be supported by a ₹1,000 crore fund from the Central government and should introduce reforms aimed at protecting journalists from harassment, financial insecurity, and professional pressures.

According to him, such an institutional framework would provide assurance and stability to media professionals working under challenging conditions.

Concerns over influence of political and corporate forces

During the meeting, Srinivas expressed concern that sections of the media have increasingly come under the influence of political and corporate interests.

He stated that journalists attempting to report facts often face pressure, counter-narratives, and campaigns aimed at discrediting their work. Such trends, he said, can make it difficult for the public to clearly understand factual developments.

He emphasised the need to uphold ethical journalism and protect the independence of the media.

Need for protection of journalists’ rights

Srinivas also highlighted the challenges faced by journalists, including harassment, legal cases, and attacks when publishing sensitive or critical reports.

He noted that these pressures can discourage independent reporting and weaken the role of the media as a platform for accountability and transparency in democratic governance.

He called for stronger systems to ensure the safety, rights, and professional dignity of journalists.

Role of responsible journalism

The RPC leader recalled that in earlier periods the media was widely respected for its commitment to responsible reporting and public accountability.

He stressed that maintaining ethical standards and encouraging fact-based journalism are essential for strengthening democratic institutions and protecting civil rights.

Call for media reforms

Srinivas urged both governments to introduce structural reforms to support journalists and encourage independent media organisations.

He also stressed the importance of protecting platforms that help bring public issues and social concerns into the public domain.

Meeting chaired by party leaders

The meeting was presided over by RPC Senior Secular Pendyala Kamaraju. Several party leaders participated in the meeting, including Simma Durgarao, Dudde Suresh, Vardhanapu Sarath Kumar, Karumuri Yugandhar, Doshi Nishanth, Gudla Sai Durga Prasad, Basa Sonia, Dudde Trinadh, Vadapalli Jyothish, Kakara Prasad, Simhadri Tilak, Challa Siva Durga Prasad, Masa Appayamma, Adapa Seshagiri, Yarra Bala Murali Krishna, Masa Pramila, Masa Praveen and others.
