Andhra Pradesh: Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, emphasized the integral role of Indian Railways in national identity and development during the virtual inauguration of the redeveloped Sullurupeta Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Railways: A pillar of India’s identity and growth
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Pemmasani noted that Indian Railways, carrying over two crore passengers daily, is not just a transportation system but a symbol of national pride and one of the world’s largest employers.
Modern infrastructure to reflect national confidence
Highlighting the government’s commitment to infrastructure, the minister said that today’s railway stations must be accessible, efficient, and emblematic of national pride. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for placing railways at the heart of India’s development agenda, focusing on infrastructure transformation and urban integration.
Redevelopment of Sullurupeta station
The Sullurupeta station, located in the Tirupati district and serving Sriharikota, was redeveloped at a cost of Rs 14.5 crore. The station’s strategic importance lies in its proximity to India’s spaceport, enhancing both pilgrimage and scientific travel access.
Amrit Bharat Scheme: A nationwide vision
The Amrit Bharat station scheme aims to upgrade over 1,300 stations across India. In Andhra Pradesh alone, 73 stations are being redeveloped under this initiative, marking a record scale of transformation.
