Vijayawada: Addressing growing concerns over police harassment of journalists, JDRF General Secretary Meda Srinivas reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to standing by media professionals facing threats, false cases, and intimidation for reporting the truth.
JDRF vows to uphold journalists’ legal rights
Speaking at a regional meeting organized by the Journalists’ Democratic Rights Forum (JDRF) at the Chamber of Commerce building in Vijayawada’s Gandhinagar on June 3, General Secretary Meda Srinivas declared that the organization would provide unwavering legal support to journalists facing harassment or fabricated charges.
He noted that some corrupt police officials are targeting journalists who expose facts, using false cases as tools of intimidation. “This damages their confidence and is a direct threat to press freedom,” he said.
*“Protection machinery Is being misused”
Meda Srinivas criticized local authorities for misusing state machinery to harass journalists instead of protecting them. “The very system meant to ensure journalists’ safety is now being manipulated for money, leaving vulnerable reporters defenseless,” he said. He warned that such repression undermines not only journalists but the democratic fabric of society.
Journalists urged to stay resilient and law-abiding
Calling on journalists not to be demoralized or resort to unlawful means under pressure, Srinivas assured them that the JDRF would consistently offer legal and moral support. “Do your duty with confidence. The JDRF will stand by you at every step,” he said.
JDRF strengthening its grassroots network
The JDRF, under the leadership of President P Krishna, is working toward expanding its presence across all districts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. District-level committees will soon be formed to support journalists at the grassroots.
Srinivas encouraged reporters to strengthen the organization at the mandal level and become active members. “Those who believe in the value of Aksharam (the written word) are welcome in our movement,” he added.
A trusted shield for the media community
Highlighting recent efforts, JDRF leaders noted that the organization has already stood in solidarity with Akshara Lokam journalists facing challenges in both Telugu states. “JDRF stands as a guarantee for the safety and future of media friends,” Srinivas emphasized
