Karnataka seeks Centre’s nod for key irrigation projects

Bangalore: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has urged the central government to approve and allocate funds for crucial irrigation projects in the state. He met Union Ministers CR Patil and V Somanna in New Delhi to discuss these demands and has sought another meeting on March 18.
Push for irrigation project approvals
Addressing the media at his residence in Sadashivnagar on Wednesday, DK Shivakumar said that Karnataka is working towards securing approval for major irrigation projects. He said that his recent discussions with the central government focused on obtaining necessary permissions and financial grants.

Focus on reservoir infrastructure
Shivakumar highlighted that the state’s technical team is actively working on replacing reservoir gates across Karnataka to ensure better water management. Additionally, a proposal for automatic dams and canal systems is under consideration to improve irrigation efficiency.
Districts to benefit from new projects
The proposed irrigation projects are expected to benefit multiple districts, including Vijayapur, Dharwad, Belagavi, Bagalkote, Gadag, Koppal, and Raichur. He assured that efforts are underway to expedite the process and ensure smooth implementation.
Next round of talks on March 18
Shivakumar confirmed that he has requested another round of discussions with the central government on March 18, where Karnataka will further push for approvals and financial assistance for these critical projects.
