Vivekananda’s vision: Inspiration for a strong and secular country
By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu:Bureau Chief

As we commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, his teachings continue to inspire generations with their universal relevance. His call for unity, selflessness, and courage serves as a guide not just for the youth but for everyone—from common citizens to those in power.
Youth: The torchbearers of change
“Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.” Swami Vivekananda believed in the immense potential of the youth. He saw them as the driving force for societal transformation. Today’s youth must embrace his message by equipping themselves with knowledge, engaging in nation-building, and championing equality. They must shun divisive ideologies and work toward fostering a progressive and inclusive society.
Governments: Guardians of justice and equality
“The best thermometer to the progress of a nation is its treatment of its women and minorities.” Governments must prioritize the upliftment of marginalized communities and protect the rights of all citizens. Policies should reflect a commitment to equality, education, and healthcare, ensuring that no section of society is left behind. Governments should embody Vivekananda’s vision of justice, compassion, and service.
Political parties: Catalysts of unity, not division
“Religion is not in doctrines, in dogmas, nor in intellectual argumentation; it is being and becoming, it is realization.” Swami Vivekananda’s emphasis on spiritual harmony urges political parties to transcend narrow ideologies. Rather than exploiting religion or caste for electoral gains, they should foster unity and promote a secular vision that strengthens the social fabric.
Common people: Builders of a strong society
“You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.” Every individual has a role to play in building a resilient nation. By practicing empathy, embracing diversity, and standing against injustice, common citizens can contribute to a society rooted in secular and ethical values.
People in power: Leading with courage and integrity
“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life—think of it, dream of it, live on that idea.” Swami Vivekananda urged leaders to lead with vision and integrity. Those in power must prioritize the nation’s welfare over personal or political interests, acting as role models of courage and selflessness.
Religious people: Advocates of unity and peace
“Truth is one; the sages call it by various names.” Religious leaders and communities must embrace the pluralistic ethos of India. By promoting mutual respect and understanding among different faiths, they can counteract divisive forces and contribute to lasting harmony.
Building Vivekananda’s dream nation
Swami Vivekananda’s dream was of a fearless, harmonious, and spiritually enlightened nation. His teachings remain a clarion call for every citizen to rise above petty differences and work collectively for a stronger and more inclusive India. As he said, “Strength is life, weakness is death. Expansion is life, contraction is death.” Let us take inspiration from his timeless wisdom to chart a path toward a better tomorrow.
