Singapore: Indian chess prodigy Dommaraju Gukesh created history by becoming the youngest-ever FIDE World Chess Champion at just 18 years, defeating reigning champion Ding Liren of China in a thrilling finale.
A historic victory for India
In the 14th and final round of the 2024 World Chess Championship, Gukesh sealed his victory with a remarkable performance against Ding Liren. His win marks a milestone for Indian chess, as he becomes the youngest classical chess world champion in history.
A decade-long dream realized
Overwhelmed with emotion, Gukesh hugged his father Rajinikanth as tears streamed down his face. Speaking to the media, he shared, “This is the best moment of my life. My ten-year dream has finally come true.”

Roots in Andhra Pradesh
