Australia: Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan and Australian counterparts Jason Clare MP and Andrew Giles MP convened in Sydney for the 2nd Australia-India Education and Skills Council (AIESC) meeting, focusing on enhancing education and skills cooperation.

Bilateral cooperation in education and skills
During the meeting, Pradhan emphasized that education and skills are pivotal for economic prosperity and fostering long-lasting connections between India and Australia. He highlighted the importance of the AIESC as a platform for strengthening knowledge bridges and advancing shared priorities in education and skills development.

Addressing skill gaps and workforce needs
The discussions focused on future workforce demands, bridging skill gaps through education and training, and enhancing research collaboration between Indian and Australian higher education institutions. Pradhan expressed hope that AIESC would continue to strengthen bilateral partnerships across school, skills, and higher education sectors.
Strengthening university collaborations
Pradhan also engaged with members of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) coalition in Australia, exploring potential collaborations between IRU and Indian institutions to promote impactful education and research. The IRU, a group of Australian universities, is committed to advancing communities through inclusive education and research.

Further cooperation ahead
Pradhan’s visit, scheduled from October 22 to 26, 2024, aims to foster collaboration in critical areas of mutual interest. His previous visit to Singapore earlier in the week also sought to expand bilateral cooperation in skill-based education and research. The next AIESC meeting will be held in India in 2025.
