Andhra Pradesh: In a move to further combat hunger, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced plans to expand Anna canteens, aiming to provide affordable, nutritious meals to the poor across Andhra Pradesh. Speaking at the inauguration of a new Anna canteen at the State Secretariat, Naidu emphasized the initiative’s vital role in alleviating hunger and called upon societal donors to contribute to the cause.
Expansion of Anna Canteens to combat hunger
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s intention to take Anna canteens forward, reaffirming its commitment to providing meals for just Rs 5 per serving. Within the first 100 days of coming to power, 175 canteens were established, with plans to renovate the 203 existing canteens and add more in every assembly constituency.
Encouragement for donors to support
Naidu urged donors to take inspiration from this “holy initiative” of feeding the needy, urging the public to contribute to the expansion of Anna canteens. He personally interacted with women and auto drivers during the event, receiving positive feedback on the quality of food provided.
Praise for providing affordable, nutritious meals
People attending the event expressed gratitude for the initiative, with many recalling the difficulties faced due to the closure of the Anna canteens. The government aims to ensure access to affordable, clean, and nutritious food for all in urban areas.
