Dharmendra Pradhan releases 55 classical language books

New Delhi: Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday released 55 scholarly publications in classical Indian languages, reinforcing the Centre’s commitment to preserving and promoting India’s rich linguistic heritage.

Major release of classical works

The releases include 41 books produced by the Centres of Excellence for Classical Languages under the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), along with 13 books and a Tirukkural Sign Language series brought out by the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT). The works span Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Odia and Tamil.

Inclusive knowledge through sign language

A key highlight was the Tirukkural rendered in Indian Sign Language, which the minister said reflects the vision of an inclusive India by ensuring access to classical knowledge for all sections of society.

Languages as a unifying force

Addressing the gathering, Pradhan said Indian languages have survived historical challenges and continue to unite the nation. He noted that the National Education Policy 2020 strengthens education in Indian languages and moves away from the colonial-era mindset.

Officials present

The event was attended by Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti Chairman Chamu Krishna Shastry, CIIL Director Prof. Shailendra Mohan, CICT Director Prof. R. Chandrasekaran, advisor Manmohan Kaur, and senior ministry officials.
