RCP slams centre for cancelling employment guarantee in Rayalaseema

Kadapa – Andhra Pradesh: Rayalaseema Communist Party (RCP) State Secretary Ravi Shankar Reddy on Monday accused the BJP-led central government of committing grave injustice to the drought-prone Rayalaseema region by scrapping the Rural Employment Guarantee Act, which he said had protected livelihoods and reduced distress migration.
Petitions submitted across mandal centres
As part of an RCP statewide programme, petitions were submitted to Tahsildars in all mandal centres across Rayalaseema. Ravi Shankar Reddy led a delegation that submitted a memorandum to the Vallur Tahsildar, protesting the repeal of the employment guarantee law.
MNREGA helped curb migration, says RCP
Ravi Shankar Reddy recalled that the UPA government introduced the Rural Employment Guarantee Act in 2005, which significantly benefited backward regions like Rayalaseema facing drought, suicides and large-scale migration. He said the Act helped generate rural employment and prevented people from living in miserable conditions on footpaths in cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru and Mysuru.
Allegations against new G Ramji scheme
He alleged that the new G Ramji law has been reduced to a mere welfare scheme without legal guarantees or rights, calling it an insult to rural workers and farmers. He warned that scrapping the Act would again force people into migration.
Call for renewed farmers’ mobilisation
Reddy urged agricultural labourers and small farmers to unite and launch a movement similar to the agitation against farm laws. He said the Employment Guarantee Act played a key role in building roads, canals and check dams in villages.
Leaders who submitted petitions
Petitions were submitted by Lokeshwar Reddy (Chintakommadinne), Konda Reddy (Pendlimari), Chapala Subbarayudu (Chennur), Pratap Reddy (Kazipet, Chapadu), Munireddy (Maidukuru), Sharif (Proddatur), Taslim and Karimun (Erragunta), Bala Chennayya (Kamalapuram), Lakshmi Devi Ramesh (Ontimitta), Venkata Subbaiah (Siddhavattam), Ganganna (Atlur), Lakshmi Devi (Nandalur), Ramesh (Rajampet) and Raju (Vempalli).
Farmer leaders Venkata Subba Reddy, Chittibabu, Anjaneyulu, Subba Reddy, Rangasamy, Madagalam Prasad, Vijay Kumar, Kasim and Nagendra participated.
