New Delhi-Telangana: A delegation of Dalit rights activists from Telangana met National SC Commission officials in New Delhi on Tuesday, urging a thorough investigation into alleged false cases against Scheduled Caste individuals and community leaders working for SC welfare.

Delegation appeals for protection of SC community workers

Telangana SC, ST, BC Minority Student Youth Association State President Gavvala Srikanth and General Secretary Kota Sivashankar met with National SC Commission Chairman and Secretary Gunde Srinivas to raise concerns over increasing legal harassment of SC individuals and leaders, particularly in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The representatives alleged that social workers and student leaders advocating for SC rights are facing fabricated legal complaints, which they claim is discouraging genuine activism within the community.

Call for inquiry Into selective targeting

The delegation highlighted the need for a full investigation into instances where lower-ranking officials reporting alleged departmental irregularities have faced retaliatory actions. They claimed that in certain cases, whistleblowers are subjected to legal pressure without due inquiry.

They specifically cited incidents in Telangana’s Mancherial district where community workers were allegedly drawn into legal disputes without transparent investigation processes. The group expressed concern that such practices may undermine both social justice efforts and legal accountability.

Support sought from National SC Commission

The activists urged the National SC Commission to ensure safeguards for community leaders and social workers committed to SC welfare. They requested that the Commission monitor such cases closely and take corrective action where necessary.

According to the delegates, the Commission responded positively and assured that it would review the concerns and pursue appropriate steps, including communication with relevant state authorities if needed.

Broader representation in meeting

The delegation also included Telangana Singareni VRS Dependent Forum General Secretary Sunkari Srinivas and other state secretaries including Sambari Prashant, Kumar Suryavanshi, Vidyasagar, Teegala Shekhar, Mohammed Rahim, and S Bhim Rao.

They reiterated their appeal for justice and institutional protection for Dalit activists and urged the Commission to help foster a safe environment for community service and advocacy.
