By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Yemmiganur – Andhra Pradesh: Following the collapse of a wall from a three-storey under-construction building in Yemmiganur, which left two children critically injured, CPI (ML) New Democracy leaders have demanded accountability and financial assistance for the victims.

Wall collapse leaves family injured

At around 8 pm on Friday, a wall from an under-construction three-storey building near Yellamma Beedu on Kosigi Road in Yemmiganur town collapsed onto nearby huts. The huts belong to a joint family of 14 members from the poor community. Two children from the family of Kuruva Sriramulu sustained critical injuries and are undergoing treatment at Likhita and Ruchita Care Hospitals in Kurnool. Sriramulu himself was also seriously injured, while other family members escaped with minor injuries.

Negligence blamed on engineer and contractor

CPI (ML) New Democracy M Satyanna, along with representatives from IFTU, PYL, and AIKMS, submitted a petition to the Yemmiganur Municipal Commissioner on Saturday. They alleged that the collapse occurred due to serious construction flaws and negligence by the private contractor and engineer responsible for the building. The petition urged the authorities to hold those responsible accountable for the incident.

Key demands

Immediate financial assistance to the injured family.
Cancellation of the private engineer’s license for negligence.
Full compensation of medical expenses by the contractor and engineer until the injured recover completely.
Reconstruction of the damaged hut.
Municipal measures to create awareness among builders and enforce construction safety standards.

Broader call for accountability

Leaders present at the petition submission—S Balaraju, Babu, S. Muneppa, Yusuf, Pedda Reddy, Yellappa, and others—stressed the need for strict action against those who violate construction norms. They warned that unless stringent checks and accountability mechanisms are enforced, similar tragedies could occur in the future.
