Tamila Nadu: Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar, addressing a conference of Vice-Chancellors in Tamil Nadu’s Udhagamandalam on Friday, praised Governor RN Ravi for upholding constitutional values through initiatives in higher education and called for collective efforts towards national security, academic transformation, and preserving India’s rich cultural heritage.

Vice President Dhankhar lauded Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi for organizing the Vice Chancellors’ Conference, calling it a fulfillment of his constitutional duty under Article 159. He commended the Governor’s commitment to education and his efforts to advance academic discourse in the state.
Vice Chancellors recognized as modern visionaries
Speaking to Vice Chancellors from state, central, and private universities, Dhankhar emphasized their critical role in shaping India’s future. He described them as visionaries capable of navigating challenges and bringing transformative changes in the academic sector.
Rapid technological change demands proactive academia
Highlighting global challenges posed by technological disruption, Dhankhar urged universities to become centers of innovation. He stressed the need for Vice Chancellors to collaborate, share faculty resources, and move beyond traditional silos to address emerging academic and technological demands.
Condolences for victims of Pahalgam terror attack
Expressing grief over the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Dhankhar called terrorism a global menace that must be tackled collectively. He reaffirmed India’s peaceful ethos rooted in “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and emphasized that national interest must always come first.

Dhankhar highlighted the nation’s resilience under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Referring to B R Ambedkar’s call for national unity, he urged citizens to prioritize national interests over partisan considerations.
National Education Policy: A transformative blueprint
The Vice President spoke about the National Education Policy (NEP), noting its emphasis on multidisciplinary learning, Indian languages, and holistic education. He encouraged institutions to fully adopt and implement the NEP to unlock its transformative potential for the country.

Dhankhar stressed that standalone institutions must evolve towards a multidisciplinary model. He urged universities to foster innovation, share resources, and encourage diverse ideas to strengthen democracy and academic excellence.
Tamil Nadu’s historic role in Indian academia
Recognizing Tamil Nadu’s contributions, Dhankhar cited ancient learning centers like Kanchipuram and Ennayiram as models for today’s educational institutions. He noted Tamil Nadu’s early leadership in establishing modern education through institutions like Madras University.
India’s linguistic heritage: A national treasure
The Vice President emphasized the richness of India’s languages, particularly Tamil, which was the first to receive classical language status in 2004. He celebrated the nation’s unmatched literary and cultural wealth, urging educational institutions to preserve and promote this legacy.
