Municipal workers protest demanding pending wages, welfare measures

Proddatur – Andhra Pradesh: Municipal workers under the banner of the AP Municipal Workers Employees Union (CITU) staged a protest at the Proddatur Municipal Office on Tuesday, demanding immediate resolution of long-pending salary dues and improvement in basic welfare facilities.

Protest over unpaid salaries

The workers demanded payment of pending salaries of COVID workers for the last two months and sanitation workers for the past four months. They also sought an increase in wages for COVID workers and a fixed date for salary disbursement on the 5th of every month.

Demands on jobs and compensation

The union demanded that one family member be given employment to workers who died while working under APCOS, along with payment of Rs 2 lakh insurance compensation to bereaved families. They also sought jobs for family members of workers removed after completing 60 years of age.

Call for safety and work facilities

Protesters insisted on immediate supply of work tools, raincoats, blouses, masks, uniforms, slippers, soap and coconut oil to all municipal workers to ensure safety and dignity at work.

CITU District Secretary Satyanarayana, Municipal Union President Chanti, Town General Secretary Solomon, Treasurer Raghavendra, Vice President Gurramma, Mohan, Obayya, COVID Union President Raju, Secretary Mary Babu and a large number of workers participated in the protest.
